Why homeowners choose Shift
You get a dedicated Vancouver Island team backed by a Canada-wide company with over 15 years of experience and thousands of installations complete.
Offset up to 100% of your annual usage under BC Hydro's self-generation program (formerly net metering). Send unused solar back to the grid for a credit — no batteries required.
We stand behind every panel we install with a written performance guarantee and ongoing system monitoring.
Add Tesla Powerwall or a Powerwall 3 to keep the lights on when the grid goes down — perfect for storm-prone island communities.
Tier 1 monocrystalline panels engineered for our overcast winters and coastal salt air, with wind-rated coastal mounting.
No sub-contractors. Our own certified Vancouver Island installers handle the full job — design, permits, install and inspection.
Shift is a BC Hydro Alliance member, NABCEP certified, and a member of the BC Sustainable Energy Association.

How it works
Share a few details. We analyze your roof, your BC Hydro usage and your goals — usually within 1–2 business days.
You get a transparent proposal with system size, payback, financing options and every rebate you qualify for.
Our in-house Vancouver Island crew handles permits, engineering and installation — typically in 1–2 days on-site.
Once BC Hydro connects your net meter, we activate monitoring and back your system with our 25-year guarantee.
BC rebates & incentives
Vancouver Island homeowners can stack BC Hydro's self-generation program, solar and battery rebates, and PST exemptions on qualifying equipment. Our team handles the paperwork so you get every dollar back.
Flexible financing
Many Shift customers finance their solar system for a monthly payment lower than their BC Hydro bill was before — turning a variable utility expense into a fixed asset that pays itself off.

What Island homeowners say
"We recently had a 12 kW system installed and were very impressed with the crew and the final layout, as well as the near-seamless process to connect to BC Hydro. Should have Shifted years ago!"
"Every part of this experience has been great — from the speedy quoting and onsite review to the professional install. The crew were first class, very professional, and nice guys to boot!"
"Best home reno I have ever done. Not only will it pay me back and grow in value over time, but I also have a beautiful 25+ year roof. I feel so proud every time I drive up."

The cheapest quote is rarely the best quote. Here's what you're actually comparing before you sign.
Common questions
Yes. Modern solar panels generate power in overcast, diffused and partial-shade conditions — not just full sun. Vancouver Island's long summer days more than make up for shorter winter days, and BC Hydro's self-generation program (formerly net metering) banks your summer surplus as credits you use in the winter.
East, west and even some north-facing roofs still produce well on Vancouver Island — modern panels only lose 10–20% of production on east/west orientations vs. true south. Our designers model your exact roof pitch, azimuth and shading so the quote reflects your real numbers, not a generic estimate.
Yes. Panels generate power from daylight, not just direct sun, so overcast West Coast days still produce meaningful output. The system is sized so summer surplus (banked as BC Hydro credits) covers your winter shortfall — that's how Island homeowners hit ~100% annual offset.
Solar consistently increases resale value in BC — appraisers and REALTORS® on the Island regularly cite it as a differentiator. Our production guarantee transfers to the new owner at no cost, and financing (if used) can be either paid out at close or assumed by the buyer.
There isn't one — it's a fixed-rate solar loan through Canadian lending partners. Your monthly payment is often lower than the BC Hydro bill it replaces, and the system is yours (not leased). No balloon payments, no escalators, no lien tricks. You see the full amortization before signing.
Most Vancouver Island homes install between 6 kW and 12 kW. Costs depend on your roof, panel choice and whether you add battery backup. Your free assessment gives you a transparent, all-in quote — no ballpark guesses.
Typical Vancouver Island payback is 8–12 years, with a 25-year production guarantee behind the system. Every quote we send includes a payback and lifetime savings model based on your actual BC Hydro usage.
BC Hydro's self-generation program (formerly net metering) credits you for the solar you export. Solar panels are PST-exempt in BC, and other qualifying components are exempt when bought on the same invoice as the panels. BC Hydro also offers rebates on eligible solar PV and paired battery storage. Note: the federal Canada Greener Homes Loan closed to new applicants in October 2025. We check every current municipal, provincial and federal program and apply eligible savings to your quote.
No. Most Island homeowners start with a grid-tied solar system and add battery backup (like Tesla Powerwall) later, or when they're worried about storm outages. Your advisor will walk you through both options.
Once permitted, most Vancouver Island residential installs take 1–2 days on-site. From signed proposal to switched-on solar is typically 6–10 weeks, depending on your municipality and BC Hydro's net-meter timeline.
